Investing In Yourself Today Matters

Research shows that investing in experiences, rather than material items, leads to more fulfillment and happiness. Investing in yourself for your own development helps you to learn and to grow. The natural consequence of these things is increased success in the areas that are important to you.

It might not be the new year yet, but why wait? Here are some ways to start investing in yourself TODAY.

Take an online course.

There are probably millions of online courses out there on any subject you can think of. Whether you want to focus on your personal or professional development, there are so many free courses you can take online. Some good sites to check out with free courses are khanacademy.org and coursera.org. If you aren’t sure what you want to focus on, trial a few courses and find the one that interests you the most!

Set goals for yourself and check in on them consistently.

Make it the same day and time every week that you sit down and write down your goals for the week. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, but 3-5 goals for the week is a good place to start. Take a few minutes every day to check-in and evaluate where you are on those goals. You’d be amazed at what you can achieve if you take the time to constantly focus on what it is that you want to achieve. Don’t let outside factors distract you or pull you away from them.

Did you know that the average CEO reads 60 books a year? That might be a little excessive, but try setting a goal (see what I did there) to read a book a month. It doesn’t have to be any specific genre, but you’re more likely to keep up reading the books if it’s something you enjoy. This will likely decrease your “screen time,” as well. This is great because it’s healthy to unplug every once in a while.

Each year, typically in the first three months of the new year, I make it a point to attend a multiple-day event. I make sure it’s related to either my personal or professional development. This helps me to set my priorities for the year and to focus on the areas of my life where I think I can grow.

By putting yourself first in 2020, you’ll be on the right path to having the best year of your life. If you’re looking to Unlock Bold Change this coming year, I can help. Contact me at monique@coachmonique.com to learn how I can help today.
